This was our first new 2024 necklace design created for Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo. Our design collections expand all the time, just like this fun one. We continue to experiment with braid structures and bead styles (inspired by the original design from Claire at Sulis Designs). On our Floral Fusion we blend a Round Braid with a Square Structure (but it looks round), back to the Round. Braid. In technical terms we go from Kongo Gumi on both ends and in  the middle section is a Edo-Yatsu Gumi (a hollow braid)- Truly Original!

In the braiding world many beaded weavers become comfortable with a few braids. Akalei Designs has more than a dozen original and unique handmade designs that we enjoy blending into our necklace lei.
