In this"Forbidden Island" inspired necklace strand there are three clusters of light cream pinch beads that look so much like "Momi ke'oke'o" - a Hawaiian shell known for it's similarity to fine pearls. Three groups of cream pinch beads comprise of the Focal Section and then brown, red and yellow Picasso Seed Beads are used to segment the sides of each section and it is finished with a brass toned magnetic end cap.
These are NOT SHELLS but glass seed beads. This necklace was inspired by the beautiful multicolor rare shell necklaces made famous on the Hawaiian island of Ni'iHau (The Forbidden Island). This beautiful handcrafted necklace was made using hundreds of glass Japanese seed beads on multiple cords that are woven together on a wooden Marudai stand.

Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braid making technique that creates beautiful and strong interlaced cords. This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor of Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as belts (obijime) used on kimonos.
