Metallic Brown and Beige -Hawaiian Forbidden Island Inspired (8- Strands) - 34"
This is our 2nd new 2024 design inspired by the lovely multi-strands made famous by the gorgeous Ni'iHau Shell Necklace Strands. With this versatile necklace, you can use your creativity and style to keep the strands loose or twist them to have a totally new look. This long necklace lei was made by weaving two different necklace beading techniques. The Kumihimo section uses a Kongo Gumi Spiral where we used a Gold Lined Beige Seed Beads. The loose strands were threaded not woven and were made using hundreds of a three-sided Pinch Beads in Metallic Brown along with a Beige Pinch Bead (4 strands of each color). The necklace is finished using a green acrylic magnet so it will be easy to put on/off.
Akalei is the Hawaiian word for "bead reflections" which describes this unique style only available here on Maui. We specialize in designing a wide range of modern yet familiar Hawaiian lei. Please send an email to info@akaleidesigns.com.
Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braid making technique that results in beautiful and strong interlaced cords. This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor of Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as obijime that are worn as a belt with a kimono.
It is my goal to provide you with a long lasting, beautiful piece of jewelry that you will enjoy wearing for years to come. I take great care in the construction of my pieces to ensure just that. Please note: colors may slightly differ from their appearance on your display, as it depends on your monitor settings.
