Frosted White & Lavender Beaded Hawaiian Haku Rose Petal Lei - 23"
A delicate balance of white and lavender tones. This necklace was designed using large frosted white pearlized rose petal glass beads that give off a light purplish hue, and then we added lavender drops and rizo beads in the focal section (measuring 11"). Each end is made using pearlized shiny white seed beads. As all other Akalei necklace lei this has a sleek feel and drapes beautifully when worn. You will absolutely love it - and even better it is a perfect gift and comes with a strong silver toned etched magnet with an extra groove for added security.
This unique glass beaded braid was inspired by the beautiful floral Haku (also known as Po’o) Lei traditionally worn around the head. These are typically made from flowers leaves, feathers, or natural fibers resulting in vivid color combinations.
These Rose Petal Haku Lei were modeled after the beautiful Hawaiian island flower lei, the necklace and a kumihimo braiding pattern are available exclusively at Akalei Designs. All Haku Lei are handcrafted using hundreds of glass Japanese seed beads on multiple cords that are woven together on a wooden marudai stand.
Akalei is Hawaiian for "bead reflections" which describes this unique necklace lei design style made only here on Maui. We reinterpret traditional Hawaiian Lei using a vast assortment of glass and natural beads, Japanese silk and synthetic fibers, and a wide variety of braiding techniques and inspirations from across the globe.
The necklace is created using an ancient Japanese braiding technique called Kumihimo, a Japanese word for “gathered threads". This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor for Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as belts (obijime) that are worn as a belt with a kimono.
