In this modern day take on Lei we have designed a Collection of "White Wedding Haku Rose Petal Lei" that includes several designs that incorporate hundreds of white rose petal leaves and are accented with additional a variety of mini white rose petal and seed beads for a perfect "Hawaii" or beach wedding look. The silver toned hammered clasp will keep this secure around your neck. This lei has a unique segmentation to it - primarily it makes a different look to the normal Haku Lei while also making it a bit lighter to carry on your neck. dding or anniversary.
Akalei is the Hawaiian word for "bead reflections" which describes this unique style only available here on Maui. We reinterpret traditional Hawaiian Lei using a vast assortment of glass and natural beads, Japanese silk and synthetic fibers, and a wide variety of braiding techniques and inspirations from across the globe.
Modeled after the beautiful Hawaiian island flower lei, this necklace, kit and kumihimo pattern are available exclusively at Akalei Designs. This unique glass beaded braid was inspired by the beautiful floral Haku (also known as Po’o) Lei traditionally worn around the head. These are typically made from flowers leaves, feathers, or natural fibers resulting in vivid color combinations.
This beautiful hand made style lei was made using hundreds of glass Japanese seed beads on multiple cords that are woven together on a wooden marudai stand (in a kongo gumi kumihimo braid pattern), then finished with a very powerful gold toned magnet end cap. For kumihimo braiders (disk or marudai) I am also selling this truly unique pattern here and at either Akalei Designs or Kumihimo Rhythms (Etsy site).
The necklace is created using an ancient Japanese braiding technique called Kumihimo, a Japanese word for “gathered threads". This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor for Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as belts (obijime) that are worn as a belt with a kimono.
