The multi-toned beige imitation silks are woven from 12 bundles of imitation silk (with thousands of individual fibers), then these are combined into one necklace. Inspired by Hawaiian Fashion Designer Manaolo, this super lightweight necklace is unique and versatile. The gold toned magnet end cap make it easy to put on or remove.
On one braid we combined three packets of wheat tone imitation silk fiber and blended those with a lighter beige and wove all these packets together using kumihimo braiding technique. These two braids then become Art Jewelry with a regal look without the weight which makes for a perfect Hat Band. There are other braids that can be combined in a similar way, this is one necklace lei and is therefore not capable of splitting into two separate braids.
The braid's spiral effect allows it to be worn tightly as a shorter or stretched out. An extra strong gold toned magnet end allows you to wear with no worry of it falling off. It measures 21”worn. This unique necklace look is created by braiding together 12 different ‘bunches” of fiber in an “Off Balance” design technique. Altogether there are hundreds of strands that comprise this piece, leaving it luxurious yet flexible. By coiling the spirals you may make it a tighter braid, or tug lightly to stretch out a bit more.
Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braid making technique that creates beautiful and strong interlaced cords. This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor of Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as belts (obijime) that are worn as a belt with a kimono.
