Continue ShoppingAkalei Designs reimagines traditional Hawaiian Lei using a vast array of glass and natural materials (e.g., shell, nuts, wood), and natural and synthetic fibers including silk, hemp, ribbon and other materials using braiding techniques and inspirations from Hawaii and the globe. Akalei is a Hawaiian word for "bead reflections" which describes our unique necklace lei, bracelets, hat bands, and earrings all uniquely handcrafted on Maui
Green Segmented "Forbidden Island" Necklace (25") set with Hoop Lever back Earrings
This beautiful 25" necklace is has a warm garden appeal with the green Picasso seed beads. The hoop lever back silver plated matching earrings can be worn separately or as designed with this fun set. Combining the various Picasso Seed Beads gives this a similar look to a Forbidden Island style shell necklace but with glass seed beads. We combined brown, yellow and green Picasso seed beads and finish it with a green toned acrylic magnet end cap for ease of use.
This necklace lei was handcrafted on Maui using over one thousand glass beads from Japan, loaded onto multiple nylon cords then woven together on a wooden Marudai stand. It is finished with a brass toned magnet end cap to ensure it is secure. Two large beaded loops made with silver plated leverback earrings and a 6" matching bracelet join in making this a really unique and treasured set.
These necklace feels wonderful to wear and require little to almost no care by using a clean dry towel every few months to keep dust free and bright. (Bracelet/Anklet in cover photo is sold separately).

Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braid making technique that creates beautiful and strong interlaced cords. This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor of Japanese samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are designed as belts (obijime) used on kimonos.
