Brown Picasso Spiky Bead Necklace "Forbidden Island" inspired- 19"
This design incorporates shell design segments seen in Forbidden Island designs using shell, but here we use glass beads. Red, Brown, and Yellow Picasso seed beads are combined in the main section. Brown Picasso Spiky Beads are used as the focal section to add a little design fun, then finished with a brass magnet end cap "tube" to keep it secure.
As a jewelry designer I am in awe of what is done with shell lei on Ni'ihau (the Forbidden Island). My first exposure was on Kauai and I received a small choker necklace as a gift. It has given me years of joy and satisfaction but also inspiration. Ideally I want to share with the Hawaiian's on Ni'iHau my passion for kumihimo so as I expand here is another fun offering..
Akalei Designs make great gifts for woman, girls, and men! Akalei is the Hawaiian word for "bead reflections" which truly describes this unique style only available on Maui. We specialize in designing a wide range of modern yet classic Hawaiian looking lei. For customized orders please contact me at info@akaleidesigns.com.
Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braid making technique that creates beautiful and durable interlaced necklaces and bracelets. This art form goes back hundreds of years as braids were made for use in armor of Samurai warriors. In modern times these braids are used for belts (obijime) on kimonos
